We often neglect that little place under the blue sky that we call our home – constantly rushing in and out the door, we forget to take the time to create a living environment that reflects who we are. We could all use a bit more glamour in our lives, as what we wear and where we spend most of our time can have a big effect on how we feel. A well-decorated home is not just for show – it is tailored to fit our lifestyle, enable us to do all our daily tasks with ease and comfort, and to help make us feel more relaxed. Investing in your home, in a sense, means investing in yourself. So, let’s take a look at a few simple home improvement ideas that will have the biggest overall impact.

1. Brighten up your living room area

The living room is the place where you will spend a large portion of the day. If you have a family you’ll have kids running around there, you’ll cuddle up on the couch with your significant other and watch some TV, and you’ll welcome many a guest here as well. The most important thing is to get plenty of natural light, and have this area look warm and welcoming. Go with light colors and leave plenty of free space in between your furniture.

Be careful when choosing the right carpet – make sure that it is not only comfortable, but fairly durable as well. A wool carpet will stand the test of time and is very environmentally friendly, but it is quite costly, whereas cheaper materials won’t last nearly as long so there is a clear tradeoff here. The curtains you choose can also make a big difference, whether they are light and nearly see through or thick with a strong color.

2. Remodel the bathroom with style

Those short moments spent in the bathroom are often the only peace and quiet that we get in a long and difficult day. It is also the first thing that your guests will scrutinize, so it pays to give it a bit of attention. A lovely set of new tiles will go a long way in infusing your bathroom with modern style, but you shouldn’t neglect the little bathroom accessories either. Some shiny stainless steel towel racks and soap holders, a chic new vanity and a good shower head will definitely make a difference. The devil is in the details as they say, so go all out with things like stylish shower curtains, interesting new towels, cute rubber bathroom mats and so on. Play around with different designs, just make sure that everything matches in terms of color and style.

3. Get some cutting-edge tech for the kitchen

You could consider using some tiles for the kitchen area floor and the backsplash, perhaps some granite surfaces and a shiny new faucet. However, you should also think about upgrading to the 21stcentury by going out and buying some modern equipment. A big fridge and a good oven, with a slick modern design and a whole lot of functionality, will serve you well for years to come. Not only do they add a crisp high-tech look to your kitchen, but they will also make your life a significantly easier.

4. Make good use of your basement and attic space

There is a lot of free space in most basements and attics that isn’t used to its fullest potential. Don’t use your basement to dump the useless junk that you can’t bring yourself to throw away – clear it out, give it a new paint job and turn it into a game room or guest bedroom. The same goes for the attic. You can use some of it for storage space, but there are plenty of great ideas out there for you to ignore. This will give you an opportunity try something a bit different than what you were going for in your main living areas.

By improving your living conditions you will improve the way you feel and even your level of productivity. Try out some of these safe and effective tips and add some class to your home.
