5 Ways to Increase the Value of your Home's Landscape

We’ve all seen pictures of the multi-million dollar mansions with gorgeously manicured gardens sprawling out in the amazing backyard. Beautiful, snaking pathways lead through a multitude of vibrant colors and pleasant smells, and lush, soaring trees create a private and intimate space. With a proper balance of time, money and some great ideas, your landscape can take on an entirely new look. Here are five amazing landscaping ideas to spruce up your home’s vibe!

Establish A Dignified Entrance

The first thing visitors see when they come to your home is the front yard, and a little extra work here can go a long way. Create a welcoming, majestic walkway by framing entrance path. Arches look great here; either with carefully grown trees or metal latticework laced with ivy and colorful blooms. Draw attention away from the driveway with rich, vibrant colors. For an eye grabbing centerpiece, rock formations are a solid (haha) choice.

Outdoor Fireplaces

Outdoor fireplaces are a great way to add charm and class to a backyard, and if you live in a cold area, they can also be very functional! Brick fireplaces are a classic, and can accent the rest of your yard’s design splendidly. Or, for a more outdoorsy style, go for the in-ground firepit design. Children especially will love roasting marshmallows on the campfire-style pit. Fire pits also make for a great focus piece for your design. Try using them as a centerpiece, with flower beds surrounding the sitting area.

Build a Pond

Nothing exudes fanciness quite like a water feature, and there are many design options to choose from. Simple fish ponds can be an accent to a greater design layout, or you can make them the focus of the yard with a more elegant design. Multiple tiers, complete with a waterfall between them, can really set your backyard apart from others. Make sure to consider what kinds of plants you want to put in and around your pond, as well as what sort of fish you would like to call it home.

Create Landscape Tiers

When thinking about landscape design, many people think only about what goes in the ground, never considering that there’s plenty of vertical space to fill as well. A great way to create elegance and uniqueness in your garden is to use elevated planters and hanging baskets to add another dimension to your design. You’ll want to use a variety of plants in each basket, such as plants that hang out over the edge, plants that shoot out the top, and something in between to give the basket a full, bountiful look. Plants don’t have to be the only thing to get vertical: add some steps to a second raised level in your garden to give guests a top-down view of your lovely abode.

Backyard Oasis

Finally, we come to everyone’s favorite backyard feature: the pool. There are loads of fantastic ideas for how to build your dream pool, but some of my favorites include overflow spas, waterfall features, and in-pool decks. Start by picking the shape of your pool and what features you want it to include. Waterfalls serve the dual function of looking great and keeping the water cooler in the heat of summer. Next, decide what surfacing you would like for your pool. Choices include: plaster, pebble tec, beadcrete, and many more. Finally, decide whether you will have a chlorinated or salt water pool: each has pros and cons. The only thing between you and your dream pool in your imagination!
