If you’re planning a luxury holiday for you and your friends, family or partner, it’s worth taking a look at Mauritius. This island nation makes for the perfect sunny holiday location. With a sub-tropical climate and a myriad of natural beauty and man-made attractions, you certainly won’t run out of things to do. It’s hard to condense this list of activities into one measly page, so here are just a few of the things you could spend your time doing on a Mauritian getaway!

Beach hop – Mauritius has some of the most beautiful white sandy beaches in the world, so spending some time on the beach is an almost obligatory activity for a holidaymaker. There are so many great sandy locations that it is hard to pinpoint a few. Amongst some of the highest recommended are Blue Bay Beach and Pereybere Beach.

See the sights – Mauritius is a stunning place, so if you’re planning a luxury holiday here, make sure you make the most of your surroundings. For example, there are some striking waterfall locations that are worth a visit, including Les 7 Cascades and Chamarel Waterfall. The Pamplemousses Botanical Gardens are also not to be missed. They are the oldest botanical gardens in the southern hemisphere, dating back to their creation in 1719. The gardens are home to an awe-inspiring variety of exotic plants and beautiful flowers.

Cultural explorations – And when seeing the sights, no doubt you will come across some interesting cultural curiosities, of which Mauritius has plenty. The village of Triolet is a particular highlight. It is the largest on the island, and interesting sites such as the Maheswarnath Temple can be found here. The village of Grand Baie is also a popular destination for holidaymakers, and for good reason. This cultural hub of activity has plenty of restaurants and bars, as well as an art gallery exhibiting work by local Mauritian artists.

Get active – When you’re not busy with relaxing on the beach and seeing the sights of Mauritius, there are a few more active pursuits which prove to be quite popular on the island. Horse trails and horse riding allow you to explore the island in a different way, and there are centers such as Forbach Stables where you can do this. Water sports and activities are also popular in Mauritius; you could try your hand at diving for example, and there are numerous places to do so such as the Sea Urchin Diving Center and Ocean Spirit Dive Center.

Enjoy local cuisine – All these activities and sightseeing are bound to help you build up an appetite, and luckily there are some fantastic restaurants to try in Mauritius. Food ranges from specialized local cuisine such as Rougaille – a creole fish in a spicy tomato sauce – to dishes from all around the world, and if you fancy a Chinese or Italian one night, you should be able to find it in Mauritius. Some good restaurants to look out for include Le Chateau de Bel Ombre, Le Barachois, and the Domaine Anna Restaurant.

All in all, Mauritis is a diverse and beautiful island which plenty of amazing things to do, see and eat; making it the perfect place for a special and luxurious holiday. Make sure you have a true sense of luxury by staying in one of many beautiful self catered holiday homes in Mauritius, as there are lots of stunning villas, apartments and houses to choose from.
