A Guide for Choosing the Perfect Wedding Dress

Choosing the perfect wedding dress can be a very difficult and exciting thing. Whether it is the first or last thing on your list, it is probably the most important choice for nearly every bride.

Step Number One: Research

Go out and get as many wedding magazines you can find, take photos of the things you like and upload, read as many blogs as you can and create your own Pinterest Scrapbook. You can print things off and do it the old fashion way, but we are in the twenty first century. This will help you get all the best inspiration, for not only your dress but flowers, save the dates, table placings, themes everything and anything you need for your wedding. Suggestions for magazines & websites: Bridal Guide, Wedding Dresses, Brides, Modern Bride, Wedding Bells, Wedding, Real Weddings, Wedding Style Guide, You & Your Wedding.

Step Two: Style & Matching

The perfect wedding dress, or should I say YOUR perfect wedding dress will be a style that suits YOU. Remember this when researching; it’s exactly like choosing any piece of clothing. It could look amazing on the model with 2% body fat but lets be realistic, we all know normal people don’t usually look like they are Victoria’s Secret models. Classic wedding dress styles include: Strapless, Pnina, Mermaid, Taffeta, Lace, Sheath, Sleeves, No Sleeves, Backless.

The style of your wedding can greatly influence your wedding dress style as well. Something like a classic 1950’s theme is suitable, where the dresses and hair from that era can be a stunning look on a bride.

The veil and accessories have a big impact on the dress, they will be a part of your chosen style and should match accordingly. You might get lucky and the veil will come with the dress, then it’s just a matter of deciding whether or not to wear it. If it does not come with your dress and your heart is set on a veil or a certain type of accessory, don’t forget to include it in your research, otherwise it will be just as hard to find as the dress.

Step Three: The Decision

Matching with your husband to be is a major thing to factor in when choosing which dress you purchase. Make the decision together; you will be making every decision in your lives together from then on, so why not start now.

Veil or no veil? Strapless or no back? White or black? Imprints or plain? There are so many different choices in what to wear. Is it summer? Will you be in air conditioning all day? Or is it -20 degrees out side? Are you in Brisbane or having your wedding aboard? Think of all the possibility’s, how long will you be braving it in the snow? Does a perfect wedding ski jacket need to be included too?

This is where you come back to your research. That Pinterest scrapbook you made in the very beginning will help you figure out what style, shape and color you want. Subconsciously, you have probably picked it all out already. Nine times out of ten that scrapbook will be filled with your perfect wedding day from start to finish.

No matter what type of dress you choose, give yourself a lot of time to get it altered. Probably only one out of ten times does the dress fit perfectly (and that is usually if you are a Victoria’s Secret Model). Find someone you trust to alter the dress, and spend as much time as they need there to get it to fit perfect. The last thing you want is for the dress to not be ready in time or you can’t breathe while walking down the isle. The sleeves should be the perfect length and the tail should extend to as long or short as you want it. Figure hugging or loose, your dress should be perfect for your shape.
