A trip to the Country

Now that the chill is finally behind us it’s time to make the most of the spring and summer before we are trapped indoors again longing to feel the sun on our backs and remembering the sunny season like it was a lifetime ago! There are just so many places to discover, you won’t get through them all unless you have a plan of action and start making those weekend breaks away now. If you can’t do a whole weekend because of commitments or work, why not plan a few days out from London, and get away from the hustle and bustle for a few hours, there are destinations that can be reached in a short time but feel like a world away from the smog of the big city.

A fantastic place to visit at any time of the year is the beautiful New Forest; however it is extra special in the spring when you are surrounded by the luscious greenery. Take a stroll along the several walking trails and paths to discover the pleasures and history of the countryside. All year round there are guided walks where local experts will tell you about the history, geology, wildlife and folklore beneath your feet. The New ForestNational park is an area of Southern Englandwhich includes the largest remaining tracts of unenclosed pasture land, home to majestic woodlands, rare heathland and a fabulous coastline. It is the perfect setting for discovery, quiet recreation and overall a haven for people who love to explore the great outdoors. Trains from London to New Forest take just over an hour and half and run frequently.

Hire a bicycle and ride through the miles and miles of car free cycle paths and lose yourself in the breath taking scenery and natural habitat right into the heart of the forest. You do not have to be a professional rider as the tracks are not hilly and a joy to explore. Or for a unique experience of meandering around the flora and fauna and spotting endangered species, try a horseback ride, a real opportunity to get intimate with the wildlife and nature. There are even riding lessons available that can be booked from beginner level.

A romantic end to the day may be to watch the sunset over the picturesque coastline on horseback and take in the tranquillity of the evening sky and spot the first stars. Or for a real treat, come along to the Sausage and Cider Festival on 22nd-24th March 2013; there’s something for everyone!

If you’re a nature lover then then you won’t be disappointed with a visit to New Forest, and it really is a great place to spend some quality time together as a family exploring the woodlands. To make this special getaway possible and many more, all you have to do is check out the web and book your rail tickets.
