This recent move by the operators of the Maharajas Express, Asia’s most luxurious train, may have been prompted by the growing demand from the new breed of luxury travelers who don’t have much time up their sleeves yet are expecting personalized, unique experiences for their money.
Launched in 2010, Maharajas Express was operated by Royale India Tour Ltd (RIRTL) a joint venture between Cox and Kings, India and Indian Rail Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC). Now the train will be run by IRCTC alone and offer shorter itineraries at more affordable price in addition to the pre-existing itineraries. The officials have also assured a more opulent on board experience besides unsurpassable journeys which is the USP of Maharajas Express.
Maharajas Express, with its 23 guest carriages has a total capacity of 88 passengers which include a Presidential Suite build over an entire carriage, a unique feature in any train in the world.
