The voice of Elmo is formally resigning. Kevin Clash, recently garnering unwanted media attention for sexual abuse allegations brought against him, announced his resignation Tuesday. Clash took the honorable road and stepped away from his 28-year career, recognizing the scandal is not in line with the work Sesame Street does as a leading educational organization. Clash has been the voice of Elmo since 1985. Have no fear Elmo fans, I'm sure Elmo will find a new voice soon.
Kevin Clash, the voice and puppeteer behind Elmo on Sesame Street, has resigned.
"I am resigning from Sesame Workshop with a very heavy heart. I have loved every day of my 28 years working for this exceptional organization," 52-year-old Clash said in a statement Tuesday. "Personal matters have diverted attention away from the important work Sesame Street is doing and I cannot allow it to go on any longer. I am deeply sorry to be leaving and am looking forward to resolving these personal matters privately." Read more about Clash's resignation here.
