Enjoy Versailles in the style of Marie-Antoinette

Trianon Palace Versailles

Overview

An historic hotel located in the heart of Versailles, a leisurely walk from the gardens and famed Louis XIV château, needs to be as magnificent as it’s surroundings and the sumptuously renovated Trianon Palace Versailles, A Waldorf Astoria Hotel exceeds all expectations. The hotel reopened in January 2009 dazzling guests with its elegant design, two-Michelin star Gordon Ramsay restaurant and stunning Spa Guerlain.

History

Originally on the site of a former convent, the Trianon Palace was built in 1909 by famed architect René Sargent, who also designed the iconic Plaza Athénée in Paris. The stylish hotel with its gorgeous gardens became the favored holiday destination of legendary guests including Marcel Proust, Sarah Bernhardt and René Lacoste. The Duke and Duchess of Windsor even honeymooned at the Palace.

Location

Versailles is a 20-minute drive from Paris, or 35-minute train ride. Situated at the end of the Royal Gardens, stroll past the manicured lawns, opulent fountains and bronze and marble sculptures of mythological figures to the regal château.

Rooms

The property has 199 guestrooms and suites in two buildings offering city, park and garden views. Be sure to book in the historic Palace building as the modern Pavilion building is used primarily for conferences and groups. The rooms are beautifully designed and spacious, with contemporary, warm décor that fits perfectly within the classic architecture. Burgundy and aubergine jewel tones blend with dark woods and the exquisite marble bathrooms each have tiled black and white floors, either in a geometric or rose pattern.

Restaurants

Home to the legendary chef’s first foray in France, Gordon Ramsay au Trianon, was awarded two Michelin starts in March 2009. The exquisite French cuisine and graceful décor at this intimate gastronomic venue are complimented with an exceptional wine list. Perfect for a special event, experience exclusive dining at the fabulous Chef’s Table overlooking the kitchen. La Veranda is Ramsay’s brasserie serves equally as delicious contemporary continental dishes in a more casual atmosphere.

Spa

The serene 2,800 square meter (30,140 square feet) Guerlain Spa offers 15 treatment suites, a hammam, hydrotherapy and Vichy showers, steam rooms and an extensive menu of treatments. Guests can enjoy the impressive heated indoor pool modeled after a Grecian bathhouse, a state-of-the-art fitness center and outdoor tennis courts. The hotel has jogging maps of their extensive grounds, and expect to run past more than a few sheep!

Activities

Besides the château and gardens of Versailles there are many attractions in the area. Browse in Antiquaires de la Geôle, the antiques district in town or play golf in a nearby championship course. For culture buffs, take in a ballet, symphony or opera at the glorious Royal Opera in the Palace, reopened in 2009 after an extensive restoration.
