How to Have Your Dream Luxury Smart Home

Smart Home Technology

http://www.property-report.com

You've seen it on television and in the movies – the luxury smart home, complete with gadgets and gizmos galore. Well, for a lucky few, that home has now arrived. From connected devices to high-definition 4K TVs to tablets and ever more capable computers, today's homes can put those in your favorite James Bond film to shame. The house of the future can completely transform the way that you live, interact with your house, and go about your day-to-day.

So what makes a home a smart home? Well, no single thing – rather, a smart home incorporates any number of devices that can help improve control of household devices and functions; improve a person's “user experience,” so to speak; make daily processes more efficient and convenient; and generally incorporate technology into an otherwise standard living environment. Though that ultimate goal of having a live-in robot is still a ways off – come on Honda, where are you at with ASIMO? – these devices can truly transform a house, and in the process, bring it into the 21st century.

4K TV

We all wanted it the moment we saw it on The Jetsons – the wall television. Not a television that mounts to the wall, mind you, but a wall that IS a television. We might not be there just yet, but the latest batch of 4K TVs hitting the market might just be the next best thing. Samsung, a pioneer in the smart home movement, has also been on the leading edge of high-definition television development. Its range of 4K televisions, which have four times the resolution of a standard 1080P high-definition television, can be had as large as 85” in diameter – or seven feet (and curved prototypes of up to 105” have already been developed!). If that doesn't satisfy your need for a big-screen TV, then perhaps nothing will. Alternatively, you might need to start looking into how to manufacture your own television wall.

Nest

The Nest has finally delivered the promise of being able to control your home functions while away. The company's thermostat and smoke alarms are wirelessly connected, allowing them to both receive and push commands. But the devices go one step further than that – the Nest thermostat actually learns your habits, environmental needs and preferences, and over time, through artificial intelligence, will self-regulate your home's temperature. All on its own. With the Nest thermostat, you can have a more comfortable, more consistent home environment, and save energy (and your own time and effort) in the process.

Smart Glass

Like something straight out of a spy movie, smart glass transitions from transparent to opaque with the simple flick of a light switch. Using electro-chromatic technology, smart (or switchable) windows can interchange between transparent and opaque by applying voltage. For modern homes, this technology is particularly well-suited – it enables a clean, clutter-free look, while still allowing for privacy when desired. And the applications are endless; in a modern steel, glass and concrete home, smart glass can be used on exterior windows for the ultimate in sophistication, ensuring a sleek design. And for smaller applications, smart glass works really well for everything from showers to offices.

Connected Devices

Being able to control all aspects of your home – from the locks to the lights – from your phone isn't something to expect from the near future. Quite the opposite; it's already arrived. Samsung's connected home technology allows individuals to have access to and control over door locks, environmental controls, lighting, and entertainment devices – all from their smartphone. Simply download the app (and install the appropriate connected devices, of course), and the world is quite literally at your fingertips. It's the dream of the truly universal remote, realized! Simply find out which devices are compatible with your phone, and the smart luxury home is yours.
