How to Look On-Trend in Vintage

ASOS Marketplace 1980s dress

With vintage fashion you can create an individual, on-trend look for a fraction of the price of brand new designer clothing. It can be difficult to stay fashionable whilst finding your own personal style when buying new, as many designers and retailers stick to key trends which change from season to season.

But with vintage it’s easy as you have a choice between many different eras and clothing that can be worn in so many different ways. Before you invest in vintage clothing follow these top tips to stay stylish…

Combine old with new. The best way to stay on-trend and put an individual twist on your look is to mix and match vintage pieces with new fashion. Vintage dresses look great with on-trend biker boots or wedges. Or combine your dresses with modern, directional jewellery for an edgy look. Other vintage fashion that’s timeless and versatile is denim. This can be dressed up or down in a number of ways to suit your own tastes. Look at already worn in denim in retro washes and combine it with new season trends for effortless style.

Buy the original version of current trends. It’s no secret that designers look to the past for inspiration for their collections, and this ultimately trickles down to our favourite high street stores. But why buy reproductions of old trends when you can buy the real thing? With the internet it’s pretty easy to find those treasured vintage pieces. Take a look at the current trends: paisley print, 20s glamour and 50s Americana – perfect for working vintage fashion into our wardrobes! What more proof do you need that vintage is on-trend?

So if this has inspired you enough to give vintage fashion a go, just remember don’t wear vintage from head-to-toe (or at least not all from the same era!), combine vintage with new for a fresh twist on an old trend and wear the original instead of new, retro inspired clothing. Follow these tips and you’ll be able to create a style that’s personal to you, and stay on-trend throughout the seasons.
