How To Make A Luxury Soy Candle

A thoughtfully selected scented candle can transform the ambience of any room in your home. Scent can make a bold statement or a subtle gesture, giving a room character and personality. Finding the exact look and scent you want can be difficult when shopping, not to mention that it can be even more difficult to find something unique. One of your best options in these situations is making a luxury soy candle yourself. This process allows you to find the right container in addition to selecting the scent that best represents the ambience you want to create. All candle supplies can be found online, however finding luxury containers can be a bit challenging. I managed to source some locally from Crafty Candle Supplies, they had the range of luxury containers I was looking for (marble, metal, copper). I was also able to purchase the scent and staple candle making supplies needed (wicks, soy wax, thermometer etc.) I found a beautiful black marble container which fit the decor of my living room and from there selected the wick, wax and other tools needed. When choosing my scent I wanted something in season, so I chose orange blossom as naval oranges are currently in season in Australia.

What You'll Need

  • 1 black marble container
  • wick stickers
  • cotton wick
  • thermometer
  • pouring jug
  • wick holder
  • 15g orange blossom fragrance oil

 Melt the Wax

Using the double-boiler method, melt the wax over a simmering pot. I found my Pyrex jug worked best for holding the wax to melt because it allows for easy handling.

Prepare the Container

Using the wick sticker, place the wick in the center of the container. Once the wick is in the center of the container, use the wick holder to keep it in place.

Add the Fragrance Oil

Once the wax has reached 80 degrees Celsius (176 degrees Farenheit), take the wax off the heat and transfer it into the pouring jug. Once all the wax has been poured, add the fragrance oil and stir for about 2 minutes.

Pour the Candle

When the wax had cooled to 55 degrees Celsius (133 degrees Farenheit), pour the wax into the marble container and leave to set for 24 hours.
