2016 is set to be an excellent year for new cars with Aston Martin debuting their replacement for the DB9 and Bentley launching into the luxury SUV market. Of course, not all of the cars brought out this year are as eye catching as these, but there is still plenty of appeal across a range of classes. Here’s a list of high-quality cars launching in 2016.

Aston Martin DB11

The DB11 is the replacement for the DB9, the car that has underpinned Aston Martin’s range for more than ten years. As you might expect, the car looks stunning but at the moment there’s not a lot else to go on. The details of the car are still a closely guarded secret although rumours abound regarding a turbocharged V12 engine. Look for the DB11 to boost Aston Martin’s sales, but whether it can be as popular as the DB9 is another question.

Bentley Bentayga

The luxury SUV market is hardly uncompetitive with everyone from Porsche, BMW, Audi, Land Rover and Mercedes offering myriad options. But Bentley is bringing a new level of prestige with the Bentayga, purported to be the fastest SUV in the world. The twin turbo 6.0 litre virtually breathes fire with 600bhp and 900Nm of torque. This allows the Bentayga to zip from 0 to 60 in four seconds and enjoy a reported top speed of 187mph.

Range Rover Evoque Convertible

The Range Rover Evoque Convertible is a true convertible SUV. Unlike the Land Rover Freelander, it has a full length electric soft top; the look might not be to everyone’s taste but it’s certainly striking. And there’s still plenty of off-road pedigree here, including an intelligent Roll Over Protection System – it’s sure to be a great drive.

Tesla Model X

Tesla’s Model X is something new for the company; a push into the SUV market. The figures are the kind of impressive stuff we’re used to from Tesla: 762bhp, 713b ft torque and 0-60 in 3.2 seconds. The battery will also have a range of 257 miles – so practicality is decent too. The Model X’s attractive ‘Falcon Wing’ back doors are the feature piece; they’ve got sensors that monitor the surroundings of the car to work out how far to open them.

Alfa Romeo Giulia

Alfa Romeo stopped making the 159 in 2011, and since then it has been out of the compact executive car market. The Giulia will change all that when it is released late in the year. This is very much designed as a premium car – alongside the impressive levels of interior trim, the Giulia will also be rear-wheel drive, ensuring it will be loads of fun out on the road.

Toyota Prius

Toyota Prius

Arguably the most iconic hybrid, the Prius will be launching its fourth generation in 2016 and Toyota are promising an even cleaner and more efficient car than ever before. With a potential figure of 94mpg hovering around and minimal CO2 emissions of 70g/km, it all sounds exceptionally impressive. It’s not yet clear whether this model can go anywhere to replicate the success of the original Prius.

Fiat Tipo

Fiat Tipo

2016 sees the return of the Tipo to Fiat’s range. This is a spacious family car designed to rival the Ford Focus and Vauxhall Astra, while offering a significantly lower price point. Fiat’s previous attempts to make some ground in the family car market, the Stilo and the Bravo, have not made the kind of impression that Fiat were hoping for – maybe the Tipo will be able to buck the trend.

DS 4 Crossback SUV

Citroën’s luxury brand DS has been something of a mixed bag. The sporty supermini DS 3 was a hit with its smart styling and great driving but other models including the DS 4 were not so well received. The new DS 4 Crossback looks fantastic but competing with Audi and BMW, it’s going to have its work cut out with such a crowded SUV market. The main advantage over the standard DS 4 is more comfortable and controlled ride – the result of a tweaked suspension.
