Most Expensive NYC Residence Up for Sale

New York City is no stranger to luxury real estate. It’s also no stranger to the high price tags that go along with that real estate. Recently, the bar was raised again when the Residence at River House was listed for sale. This luxury estate hit the market asking for an astounding $130 million, making it the most expensive New York City residence up for sale.

Expensive Price Tag

As mentioned above, the Residence at River House has become the most expensive NYC residence currently for sale. The River House property has surpassed both the Pierre penthouse (which is listed for $125 million) and the Bloomberg duplex (listed for $115 million) to become the most expensive real estate in NYC. The Residence at River House also comes in fourth for most expensive home in the entire United States.

Currently, the only properties listed ahead of it are the Olwood estate in Los Angeles ($150 million), the Copper Beech Farm in Greenwich ($140 million), and the Crespi-Hicks estate in Dallas ($135 million). At just under $2,100 per square-foot, the River House home is a comparative bargain to penthouse condo sales, which can run as high as $10,000 per square-foot.

The “Residence”

The Residence at River House gets its name from the River House private club. The building was built in 1931 and has since served as the River House clubhouse, until recently hitting the residential sale market. The River House club has been known for its exclusivity, reportedly turning away the likes of Diane Keaton, Gloria Vanderbilt, and even Richard Nixon. The private clubhouse turned single-family home is 62,000 square feet and five stories tall, making it the largest single-family home in NYC. The “Residence” is located in midtown Manhattan and overlooks the East River.

Residence at River House Amenities

While 62,000 square feet is impressive, the Residence at River House also boasts some extraordinary amenities as well. The first thing that stands out is that the property includes a massive 62-foot indoor swimming pool. Along with the pool, the River House estate also features a full spa, tennis and squash courts, a wine cellar, card room, and an IMAX screening room. To go along with the theme of exclusivity that is associated with the River House home, it also has its own private entrance.

The River House property is also being marketed with an impressive renovation plan from famed interior designer Tony Ingroa. The ambitious plan involves a 15,000-square-foot bedroom level and a level completely dedicated to the estate’s staff.

The Residence at River House has already garnered a lot of attention for its astonishing price tag. With lavish amenities and 62,000 square feet, the River House property is sure to continue to turn some heads. However, the question remains as to who will be willing to step up and pay for the most expensive residence in New York City.
