Olde Magoun's Saloon's Fun Beer Bar

Olde Magoun

A great beer bar used to be a difficult find outside of Boston. Until now.

Meet Olde Magoun’s Saloon in Somerville.

The casual restaurant located in Magoun Square offers 28 seasonal and local craft draft beers (complete with a rotating cask), trivia on Tuesdays, themed dinners on Wednesday nights, backyard BBQ on Thursdays and a traditional roast on Sundays.

We visited the pub recently and got started with a Wormtown IPA and unfiltered Down East Cider that we paired up with a sampling of meaty chicken wings topped with a delicious honey hot sauce. Don’t miss the short rib sliders topped with a flavorful garlic mayo, provolone cheese and crispy onion strings. Moving right along, we also sampled the fried mac and cheese triangles – three golden pieces of cheesy penne arrived with a side of smoky chipotle honey for dipping.

Pair up a 21st Amendment Live Free IPA with an all American burger topped with bacon and you will be glad you did. Other burgers here include the Dubliner topped with Irish bacon and cheddar, an Englishster complete with fried egg on an English muffin and the Hillbilly topped with pulled pork and coleslaw. We loved the hearty meatloaf dish of ground turkey wrapped in applewood bacon with a side of creamy mashed potatoes, brown gravy accompanied by a side salad.

Olde Magoun’s Saloon is located at 518 Medford Street in Somerville, Mass. For more information, call (617) 776-2600 or visit them online at http://www.magounssaloon.com.
