is it just me or are luxury hotels in Cusco/Machu Picchu just outrageously overpriced. Just as with the train monopoly, it seems that the Orient Express has commandered the luxury hotel market with its insane prices to match. The Sanctuary Lodge, the only hotel in Machu Picchu, offers a decent luxury hotel stay but with astronomical prices. The Hotel Monasterio is another one of these outrageously priced hotels and now I hea they will be opening the new Palacio Nazarenas. i think these hotel operators should be ashamed for their price gouging and offer a comparable luxury experience without the monopolistic attitude. Yes we are all there to see the UNESCO site, but no need for highway robbery.
To be candid, there are many hotel options in Cusco that are not in the price gouging realm, so a customer does have their pick. I'm simply referring to the high end luxury market.
