I was born in Milan but moved to the States when I was 12 years old. Since then I have been obsessed with American lifestyle and traveling the country, although I like to go home to Italy just as much.
Where in Europe will you be going? There are other places in France that I think are way more romantic than Paris. Like the French Riviera or Strasbourg. I was in Croatia recently though and Dubrovnik would probably be my top pick at the moment.
Both the Birrificio Lambrate on Via Adelchi in Citta Studi and the California on Via Luigi Ornato in Bicocca are popular amongst locals, and highly regarded. Simple and unquestionably local, you'll almost certainly get a taste of the local fare and culture at either bar.
The first place that immediately springs to mind would be the Funivia Stress - Alpino - Mottarone. Beautiful country for hiking and biking, and a lovely memory for anyone with an outdoor spirit. Alternatively, the Funicolare Monte San Salvatore provides a similarly beautiful experience. Try both, if you have the chance!

PCH is one of my favorite drives in the country! my friends and I took a roadtrip from San Francisco to Los Angeles one summer and it was so beautiful...especially teh Big Sur area.
