Pushkar Fair

Pushkar Mela or Pushkar Fair is a 5 Days camel fair held every year in Pushkar town in Rajasthan. Pushkar fair is basically held for selling and buying livestock and is world largest camel fair is now a very famous tourist attraction among tourist.

The Pushkar Festival is celebrated for 5 days starting from Kartik Ekdasi  to Kartika Poornima the Full Moon Day as per Hindu calendar in the month of October – November every year. People from all over Rajasthan come to sell and buy cattle’s like camel, cow, sheep and goat. Many stalls are created to sell clothes, bangles, bracelets and fabrics. The festival starts with camel race along with cultural dance and music followed by exhibitions or livestock. Many competitions like Matka Fod ( Breaking of clay pot), Longest moustache, and bridal competitions are held to attract tourist and visitors. A cricket match between tourist and locals is also organised.

Pushkar is located at a distance of 135 kms from state capital Jaipur and 430 Kms from New Delhi. A superfast Shatabdi train leaves everyday from Delhi to Ajmer which is at a distance of 15 Kms from Pushkar. Hotels in all budgets are available at Ajmer and Pushkar but be ready to pay more than 50% extra room rent during Pushkar Fair then normal days. Pushkar can be clubbed with any tour package of Rajasthan as it is located on the main highway from Jaipur to Jodhpur and Udaipur.
