The Art of Luxury Surfing

Surfing is often considered a sport for teenage boys: it often conjures images of dreadlocks, WV vans and baggy shorts – however in recent years surfing, and other water sports, have grown hugely in popularity, forcing the world’s best beaches to cater for everyone’s desires.

Whilst some of us are happy enough to pitch a tent on the beach, or share a room in a crowded hostel – some of us, quite simply are not. For many of us a holiday is not a holiday without a comfy bed, a warm shower and the all-important AC.

For those of us who require a little added luxury in our lives, there are now a whole host of resorts offering a more glamourous approach to water sports holidays. But just how do you book your luxury surfing holiday?

Where To Go

Fiji, Hawaii and Australia are all popular locations for luxury surfing holidays – they all offer pristine white sand and crystal clear waters, alongside world famous resorts. It is often cheaper to book your hotel and flight together rather than choosing separately and often that way the price includes transfers to your hotel. These locations not only offer perfect surfing, but good nightlight, excellent food and sunsets that you will take home with you.

How to Arrange Surfing Trips

Before you book your flight speak to the hotel about surfing in the area and do a little research into whether or not there is good surfing to be found at that time of year and whether or not you can do it alone. If you haven’t surfed before it is a good idea to get in contact with a local surfing school to check availability whilst you’re on holiday and to enquire about any specific requirements.

Transporting your Board

Your wetsuit is easy enough to carry in your suitcase but your board can be a little more difficult – make sure you call your airline before you board to enquire about their surfboard policy. Most places will accept the board, however it might be an idea to purchase additional insurance to ensure if it does get damaged in transit you’re not left board-less.

Choosing Accommodation

Accommodation is probably the most important part of your luxury surfing holiday. When you come in from a long day in the water you will want a nice warm shower, or even bath, to help with any muscle pain you might have experienced – ensure you choose a hotel with a nice bathroom suite. When it comes to food and drink you don’t want to be worrying about shopping and cooking, so all inclusive hotels can make a huge difference to the luxury aspect of you time.

Other amenities such as a Jacuzzi, sauna, steam room and pool, can ensure your stay has that added luxury factor with you can enjoy before sleeping the night away in the perfect bed, before another day on the waves.
