The Cancer Foundation Working to Prove Physical Activity Reduces Cancer Progression

Want to workout and give back to cutting edge cancer research at the same time?  Well, look no further than AKTIV Against Cancer, the organization co-founded by Helle Aanesenand legendary runner Grete Waitz(nine-time New York City Marathon Champion)

Not only has AKTIV Against Cancer’s recent research indicated that physical activity can extend beyond subduing the symptoms and side effects of cancer therapy, but it is shown to reduce overall cancer progression and assistant in a positive response to cancer therapy.

AKTIV Against Cancer has since donated over $14 million to help create 16 physical activity centers in cancer treatment facilities throughout Norway. Upon their official presence in the United States in 2014, the foundation launched a research program with Memorial Sloan Kettering, the largest private cancer center in the world - to fund exercise oncology research via Dr. Lee.

"I’m thrilled about our second annual AKTIVday and am so happy to experience its expansion and growth. It's crucial to stay active – and to do it while supporting an important cause makes it so much more meaningful,” says AKTIV Against Cancer Co-Founder, Helle Aanesen. Aanesen continues,“We can't wait to see NYC’s fitness and wellness community come together for this year’s AKTIVday and are so grateful for all support on this special day!"

Thus far, they have donated $3.3 million dollars to the MSKCC and are looking to pledge even more with your help!  On Thursday, April 11thAKTIV Against Cancer will be hosting their second annual ‘AKTIVday’ where the trendiest fitness and wellness studios across New York City will donate 20% of their day’s proceeds to AKTIV Against Cancer.
