The Importance of Corporate Uniforms

Whatever type of business you are in, from the hospitality and leisure industries to the finance industry, image is everything. It gives your clients their first impression of you, helps maintain employee morale and is part of your company’s brand. For these reasons and more, corporate uniforms are an integral part of the day to day running of your business.

Although some companies choose just to employ a dress code, there are many advantages of using a set, mandatory uniform instead. Firstly, it means that everybody’s appearance reflects the standard in dress that you and your business expect. You don’t need to send out memos reminding people of the dress code or waste time in your staff meetings discussing it. Just having a dress code instead of a mandatory uniform means that you get one or two individuals who will try to bend the rules and stand out.  Having the reassurance that every member among your staff will be dressed smartly and correctly which means one less thing for you to worry about.

Having all of your staff in the same uniform brings them all to a level playing field, whatever their backgrounds. It creates a feeling of unity and equality as well as a sense of belonging to the same team. As teamwork is an important part of any work place, anything that helps encourage this is a plus.

In some industries, such as the hospitality and catering industries, having the front of house staff in the same uniform is expected. For example, when you go into a restaurant, you would expect all of the waiting staff to be dressed in the same uniform. Industries of these kind demand that the workforce look more united and eager to serve the customer, so the role of the uniform becomes very important. When the members of staff are wearing a smart, yet pleasant uniform, the customers approach them more confidently.

By choosing good quality corporate uniforms, this also means that you can ensure that your staff are wearing clothing that enables them to perform at their optimum level and are ready for any task. For instance, if you are running a bar, your staff will need uniforms that look smart whilst still being durable and give flexibility to move. It is pretty much impossible to change a barrel whilst wearing stiff, tight trousers and any person who works in a bar or restaurant will tell you how much wear and tear their uniform goes through. Choosing a corporate uniform, that is easy to care for also means that your staff can save valuable time and money on the upkeep of their uniform, especially if you don’t choose uniforms that are dry-clean only.

As well as being prepared for any work task, corporate uniforms mean that your team members are constantly prepared for visits from important clients or business partners. In an office environment, this means not having to send out memos the day before an important client is due to visit or doing any spot checks.

Installing a mandatory uniform not only keeps up your professional image, it also benefits your members of staff by uniting them as a team and thus improving performance.
