The Luxury Gifts Londoners are Buying to Say Thank You

The tradition of gifting flowers has played a significant role in society across nearly every major civilization in history. Even among the Victorians, who were renowned for abstaining from verbal expressions of emotion, were not averse to receiving a beautiful bouquet. Time has translated flowers into a universal language that we use the world over to convey our thoughts and feelings. We say, "I love you" with roses, give carnations on Mother’s Day and gift orchids and tulips to express affection. But how do we say thank you?

While the flower industry in 2017 is booming, many feel it simply isn’t enough to say thank you with flowers anymore. Some might say it’s a sad sign of the times when we replace tradition with materialism, but others would relish in the knowledge that their gift isn’t withering away on a table. As usual, London’s rich and famous are paving the way for a new trend in gifting.

Brazilian Premier League footballer David Luiz recently thanked his Chelsea teammates for their contribution to their title winning season by surprising his colleagues with thirty bespoke Senturion keys. Senturion keys are clever smart keys for supercars that are worn as a luxury wrist accessory—and they’re £38,000 each. David Luiz even went as far as working with Senturion to create an ultra-luxury wristpiece made from a 4.9 billion year old meteorite.

Christian Louboutin is a household name across areas like Kensington & Chelsea. His red-lacquered shoes are a staple of the prestigious Louboutin brand and the envy of millions of women worldwide. Sinnita Cowell told the press in December 2016 that Simon had a reputation for gifting her a pair each year. The brand truly is synonymous with luxury, but interestingly, Louboutins are commonly gifted as "push presents" too. Push presents are effectively a "thank-you" from men to women for the trials and tribulations of giving birth. It might seem like another up and coming fad, but in fact it was recently reported that approximately 38 percent of new moms had received a "push present" before or after giving birth. David Beckham famously bought Victoria Beckham a commissioned necklace and Hermes handbag after the birth of Harper in 2011. Even pop superstars like Pink are catching on, having recently received a handmade motorcycle from her husband Casey Hart.

Some thank yous are a little more conventional than others and some are wildly different altogether. In fact, London mums are increasingly fond of stunning thank you gifts crafted right on their doorstep. There's one brand in particular that is gaining traction amongst mothers up and down the UK. Biscuiteers are fast becoming a household name in the UK for their gorgeous biscuit designs, which are delivered in charming biscuit tins. Their tins cover a range of occasions from 'thank you' designs for friends, teachers and parents to new baby gifts.
