The Mirbeau Inn & Spa Provides the Perfect Weekend Escape

The Mirbeau Inn & Spa

If you are looking for some quiet respite from your harried schedule, it’s time to head down to the newly opened Mirbeau Inn & Spa located at The Pinehills in Plymouth, Mass. From the moment you make your way up the cobblestone driveway to the French style private estate, you will know you have arrived.

Mirbeau means “reflected beauty,” which is on display throughout the entire property. From the perfectly manicured lawns and Monet-inspired gardens to the beautiful frog ponds, the scenery here is breathtaking.

We recently visited the spa for a 50-minute couples massage – an aromatherapy Monet’s favorite fragrance for two. After we had picked out the scented natural essential oil we loved most, our therapists, Brittany and Delynn, worked their magic with a Swedish massage on our tense shoulders and backs. What makes Mirbeau so special is it is an all-in one intimate destination that allows guests to book a spa treatment, enjoy a dinner on premises and retreat to one of 50 rooms at the adjacent inn. The spa also offers packages that combine treatments with a lunch or dinner afterwards. Be sure to head over to the eucalyptus-infused steam room or nearby resting room with heated foot pool after the treatment for the ultimate in relaxation. (There is also an outdoor hot plunge whirlpool spa with private bar in the Aqua Terrace).

We stayed for dinner at The Bistro &Wine Bar and enjoyed a late summer dinner al fresco on the patio. Executive Chef Stephen Coe has outdone himself with the menu here. We have been fans of Chef Coe since his days at Bokx 109 American Prime at Hotel Indigo in Newton, Mass. and were glad to hear he landed here. The farm focused menu features fresh produce from local farms and some of the freshest seafood in town.

Dinner here is a presentation in artistry. We got started with a sampling of the Plymouth oyster grilled, a delicious combination of pancetta, bee pollen, tomato and chive fondu. The sacchetti was a heavenly creation of pear and mascarpone stuffed into pillowy tortellini served with moustarda fruit, grape must and chive fondu. If you are looking for something lighter, don’t miss the tuna crudo served atop a bed of local seaweed and spicy crème fraiche. Don’t fill up on the addicting popovers served with butter, honey and edible flowers (it’s almost impossible not to). For dinner, we recommend the Block Island swordfish served with a side of asparagus and the juicy steak au poivre cooked to a rare perfection with cognac, green peppercorn, pommes puree and haricot verts. Finish off your memorable experience here with a drink by the fire pit.
