About 70 percent of Americans celebrate Halloween each year, according to That's a lot of candy, costumes, and crowds.  We asked Brad Butler of Halloween Express on his expectations for this upcoming year and he said “We are starting to ramp up for the biggest Halloween season we have ever experienced.  Demand is high and while some people like shopping online for their costumes, others prefer to see try their costume on before they buy.  Either way, it is expected to be a very big year for Halloween.” So while debating what to wear on your night out, check out the following 17 costumes — listed in no particular order — that celebrities have worn. It'll inspire you to follow suit and make a fashion statement of your own.  

1. Michelle Trachtenberg: Sally from The Nightmare Before Christmas

Michelle's incredible makeup makes her nearly unrecognizable, earning her a spot as one of the best celebrity Halloween costumes. In 2011, she showed up to Heidi Klum's Halloween party as Sally from "The Nightmare Before Christmas." Not only do her makeup, hair, and dress work together to create a unique ensemble, but her stance helped portray the character.

2. Sandra Bullock and Louis: Woody and Buzz 

Sandra Bullock dressed as Woody and held little Louis, who dressed as Buzz from "Toy Story," in her arms on Halloween. This is perhaps one of the cutest costume duos and is a great idea for couples or for parents and children.

3. Heidi Klum: Skinless Human

In 2011, Heidi Klum walked into her 12th annual Halloween party wearing a full suit that displayed an exact mapping of the bones and muscles of the body. Basically, she went skinless. While covering her entire head with the realistic-looking costume, she still managed to slip-on a pair of heals for a glam addition.

4. Miley Cyrus: Nicki Minaj

It's silly when celebrities dress up as other celebrities (namely, their own friends), but when Miley dressed up as Nicki Minaj, onlookers almost thought it was really Nicki. Miley certainly gets props for putting enough effort into her costume to make people believe she was the real thing.

5. Kyle MacLauchlan: Injured Golfer

Kyle MacLauchlan took on a unique twist to a regular golfer costume and displayed an injury to the head instead. With a golf ball sticking out of his forehead and all the proper golfing gear (the pants, the glove, and the club), he earned a spot as one of the best celebrity Halloween costumes.

6. Heidi Klum: Indian Goddess Kali

Heidi Klum is well-known for her incredible costumes, so it makes sense that she made the list twice. In 2008, she dressed up in an elaborate costume of the Indian Goddess Kali. Complete with bright blue skin, eight arms, and shrunken heads, she went through a lot of work to make this one of the best costumes of all time.

7. Kim Kardashian: Poison Ivy

Kim Kardashian hit the spotlight at a New York City party with her Poison Ivy costume, Batman's villainess. Her sexy, slim dress accompanied with bright red hair gives her a striking resemblance to the original character.

8. Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson: The Hulk

The Rock's seemingly perfect muscles make him perfect for the part of The Hulk, even without adding any muscle mass to his costume. With some green makeup, a wig, and ripped up shorts, Dwayne easily pulled off his best Hulk impression.

9. Christina Milian: A Cupcake

Christina showed up to an L.A. party in a cupcake costume, full with a fluff tutu skirt and dazzling colors. This costume is simply stunning and full of fun, that you can't help but enjoy it, earning Christina Milian the title of one of the cutest costumes ever. 

10. Isla Fisher: Sock Monkey

While Isla Fisher's sock monkey costume wasn't as sexy as the aforementioned, it was a cute and unique idea. Covered from head to toe in a sock monkey suit, you can't tell who's underneath, but it's a neat idea and a pretty fabulous costume.

11. Emma Roberts: Pretty Woman

Ironically, Emma Roberts' aunt played the famous hooker in "Pretty Woman," and Emma chose to recreate that 1990's character herself. She wore a wig with an outfit that looked just like the one in the movie, making it a costume that onlookers fell in love with.

12. Emily Van Camp: A Tiger

Tiger costumes might be common, but Emily Van Camp's costume was simply fabulous. Featuring a sleek striped dress with simple shoes and tiger ears, she managed to look incredibly gorgeous without trying. Props to Emily for pulling off a sexy look without much makeup.

13. Perez Hilton: Lady Gaga

In 2009, Perez chose to dress up as Lady Gaga for Halloween. While there is little resemblance between the two, the dress clearly gives it away. The best part about this costume is that it's hilarious, with Perez in fishnet stockings and a giant bow in his hair.

14. Fergie: A Toddler from Toddlers and Tiaras

Fergie went all out with her "Toddlers and Tiaras" costume, bringing big hair, a short fluffy dress, and high heals into the mix. She even carried along props with her at the party, including a sash, a trophy, and a teddy bear,  displaying the unique character of her costume.

15. Snooki: Pickle Queen

Snooki's Pickle Queen costume is extremely odd, pulling along a giant pickle scepter with her to compliment her pickle-colored dress and cape. She even paired her costume with a tiara and green shoes, truly making her the Queen of Pickles.

Christina is another celebrity well-known for her amazing costumes, earning her another spot on the list. Her "Avatar" costume was simply amazing, almost comparable to those in the movie. She had all the proper equipment, with the corn-row hair, stripped body from head to toe, and small piece of fabric that covered her private area.

17. Nina Dobrev: Willy Wonka

People have used all sorts of Willy Wonka costumes throughout the years, but Nina Dobrev perhaps does it best. She pairs her black top hat and purple coat with fishnet stockings and green gloves for a fashionable appeal that shows everyone she's Scrumdidlyumptious.
