Top 5 Tips for Organising your Closet

A messy, disorganised closet can make getting ready for work or a function stressful, as you waste so much time looking for a specific item that you can never find in the chaos. Streamlining your closet and packing things in an orderly fashion, will feel like an inner shower to your soul. You can make the most of the space you have, without having a fancy custom made closet, and just some regular hanging and packing space. Here are 5 ways to help you clear the clutter.

Group your clothing
Hanging up your gym clothes next to your maxi dresses, is one sure fine way you are going to start getting rattled. Pack your clothing together according to occasion. Hang your everyday work clothes right in front of your closet, all together, so you don’t have to run around in the morning looking for things

Belts, Ties and Scarves

Unless you like the 50% off sale look in your cupboard, with scarves, ties and belts pouring out of every shelf or popping off every hanger, it’s time to take charge of them before they take charge of you. The tie/belt/scarf rack should be essential closet accessories for both men and women of all ages.

Knitwear
Even though it may be tempting to hang up all your knitwear to save space, you actually need to find a deep drawer, and fold them up nicely to store them. Hanging your cardigans or sweaters will only stretch them and 3 months after not wearing them, they can start to look tatty and out of shape.

Individual Boxes

Gym clothes, sport socks, lingerie, boxer shorts and pantyhose, are all items that should never be stored together. Pack them in easily accessible baskets or boxes, so that all your bulky hockey socks or gym bras are not drowning your delicates in the underwear drawer. Rolled up socks bounce all over the place and can take up an entire drawer on their own; give them a specific box.

Shoe Boxes

Throwing all your shoes into the bottom of the closet, while you are perched on the end of your bed, may seem like a time saving idea. But when your smelly gym shoes live on top of and sleep with your Jimmy Choos, it’s time for drastic measures. Clear shoe boxes are one of the best inventions ever. They are sturdy enough to pack on top of each other; they keep the shoes in their ever perfect condition, and the best part is you don’t have to tip your entire closet out onto the floor looking for that pair of green sandals you haven’t seen in weeks.

At the end of the day, a cluttered closet is going to make you crazy. It affects the way you feel about yourself, as you have to deal with it at least twice a day. Restructure, throw out, scale down and get rid of the stuff that shouldn’t be in there, like keepsakes, letters, perfumes and boxes, and you will have a much better start to your day.
