Wanderlust Pillow Talk with Alexandra Foster

Alexandra Foster

Boston native and London-based interior designer, Alexandra D. Foster, has a lot to smile about these days. Her collection of travel inspired pillows is now being sold in her hometown at Kate & Theo Home, located at 96 Charles Street in Boston.

Colorful, stylish and made of a 100 percent silk front, the beautifully designed pillows feature travel inspired patterns that range from rooftops in the Amalfi coast to latticed restaurant doors in London and even a lavishly decorated elephant from Jaipur.

How did Foster come up with the idea for the collection? “Each one has a cool story and some of the designs are from photographs I have taken when traveling,” she said. “The pillows are entirely handmade and each takes a lot of hours to assemble. Most pillows today are mass produced but my designs are each handmade and are inspired by travel.”

When determining which shop in Boston she wanted to carry her line, Foster said the choice was easy. “I used to love strolling down Charles Street when I was living in Boston and fell in love with the Kate & Theo store,” she said. “I walked in and started chatting with Kate and her brother Theo. They loved the pillows. It is quite special for me to have them as the first retailer in my hometown to support the collection.”

Foster gets her inspiration for the designs through everyday experiences. “Everything I see now, I think, could that be a pillow design?” she said. “It’s funny when you put your mind toward patterns. Even when it comes to nature, I can get color inspirations. It’s everywhere once I start looking. I love taking it all in.”

Each pillow costs $295 and the collection is currently sold in six stores in the U.K., three stores in the U.S., including Haven in Lexington, Mass. and one store in the Middle East. - See more at: http://www.justluxe.com/community/wanderlust-pillow-talk-with-alexandra-foster_a_1957417.php#sthash.gloj2hET.dpuf
