Fathers are notoriously difficult to buy gifts for. Every Father’s Day we agonize over the decision for days and still end up buying him a necktie or another bottle of cologne. Good dads will pretend to be delighted, but if you really want to delight dear old dad, you need to think outside of the box.

For the perfect Father’s Day gift, consider the life dad has taken up and the one he probably left behind (and sometimes dreams about at night). He’s a family man now, but there was a time before you were born when he indulged in extravagances and vices that he now warns you against. All of those vices can be found in Las Vegas.

Gifts should be memorable. A weekend trip to Las Vegas is going to be a winner, and he may just forgive you for all those transgressions from when you were a teenager. “Las Vegas is one of the prime destinations people search for online,” said Chris Rivett, travel expert at HotelsCombined. “It’s also one of the most affordable, with direct flights available from many different cities throughout the country, and plenty of hotel deals at hotels and resorts both on and off of the main Las Vegas strip.” Once you get there, you’ll find an overwhelming array of choices, but a few of the more manly pursuits Las Vegas has to offer may prove to be real dad-pleasers:

Sweets

Cupcakes? Manly? These ones are. You really need to go for the booze-soaked cupcakes offered by Sin City Cupcakes, founded by Lisa Song Sutton, entrepreneur and former Miss Nevada 2014. Have a dozen sent over to your hotel room.

Beer

Nevada has the loosest liquor laws in the country, and it’s perfectly acceptable to walk down the strip holding an open can of beer. However, it’s a lot more pleasant to sit down at a table at Banger Brewing in the downtown Fremont Street district, and get an all-you-can-drink, all-day wristband! You can sample each and every one of their fine brews, and the wristband buys you in-and-out privileges as well.

Fast Cars

Your dad may drive a sensible SUV, but you know in his heart he really wants a sports car. He can have that chance to get behind the wheel of a Maserati or a Lamborghini at Exotics Racing, taking advantage of their fleet of more than 60 dream vehicles.

Cigars

Cigar aficionados have few places left to enjoy their vice of choice, but Las Vegas has several excellent cigar bars. Even if dad’s not a regular smoker, there’s nothing quite like firing up a Montecristo and enjoying it with a nice single malt Scotch. Caesar's Montecristo lounge is the place to start, and they have a great range of cigar/whiskey pairings.

Shooting

The only shooting range on Las Vegas Boulevard, the Strip Gun Club, welcomes beginners and no license is required. You can choose from an impressive assortment of handguns, rifles, and even machine guns.

Ladies

Las Vegas really does have it all, and you can take the old man to Planet Hollywood’s Pleasure Pit, where the blackjack dealers depart from the standard croupier uniforms and instead wear sexy lingerie.

One of the last bastions of anything-goes masculinity, Las Vegas is going to give old dad a weekend to remember. Flights are cheap, hotels are a bargain, and remember—what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas.

Roman Kowalski

A fashion-conscious male who carries a city bag (no, really, it's not a purse!), Roman Kowalski has enjoyed sampling everything from fermented herring in Sweden, to red ant eggs in Thailand. His favorite cities in the world are Krakow, Bangkok and Macau, and he currently lives in Indiana with his wife Lula and their French bulldog, Pola. ...(Read More)
