Your Guide to a Stylish Man: A Quick Guide to Key Pieces from the Last Century

There have been a number of garments throughout the last century which have continued to have longevity in the style stakes, making their way back into our wardrobes this season.

1920’s: With the imminent release of The Great Gatsby, dandy style apparel is all the rage this season. Think pocket handkerchiefs, tab collars and tie bars worn with a blazer, a pair of brogues and trilby.

 

1930’s: This decade saw the introduction of double-breasted suits and tuxedos with tails onto the fashion radar. Still ůber-stylish this century, these garments have set the standard for true gentleman sophistication and have retained their timeless elegance long after their creation.

                 

1940’s: Due to the onset of World War II, this saw the demise of opulent, elaborate styles.  Instead more rigid, practical designs were adopted.  These austere times foreshadowed what was to come in the 50’s.  Men’s and ladies bowling Shirts with their bold panels and simple geometric designs, as worn by Charlie Sheen are still popular among those trying to emulate a smooth, preppy look. 1960’s: The Swinging 60s saw a number of fresh and eclectic styles. Men’s cowboy shirts, which were revived after the release of Brokeback Mountain have retained their wardrobe staple status and are frequently featured on the high-street, worn by both males and females for a fresh, modern twist on a timeless classic. It isn’t just the men who have fallen in love with this style of clothing women’s Western wear has also experienced a considerable surge in popularity since the 1960's.
