Kristen Stewart has been gaining some serious fashion cred recently thanks to help of her mentor, Karl Lagerfeld. He’s chosen her to be the face of the brand for several seasons, has put her in his runway shows, and now, has cast her to play Gabrielle Chanel in his new Chanel film. It seems he’s quite smitten with the young actress. While she’s best known for her dramatic performances in roles like Twilight and Still Alice, the part calls for a slightly more comedic role as her character is a young actress who is portraying the mademoiselle. “She played it really, really mean,” Lagerfeld told WWD. “You only see her in tests and she’s complaining about everything. She’s mean with the director; mean with the producer.”

Directed by Lagerfeld, the short is being made for the brand’s next Métiers d’Arts show in December and will star Stewart as a young Coco Chanel and Geraldine Chaplin (who has played a middle-aged Chanel in other Lagerfeld films) in an undisclosed role. If you’re wondering if the world needs another film reprisal of Coco Chanel you’re not the only one. “They make so many movies about Chanel, why can’t I make one?” the designer asked. Touché, Lagerfeld. Touché.
