Condé Nast Shutters Details Magazine in its Latest Move to Restructure

Details closure

The December/January issue of Details magazine will be its last as the glossy becomes the latest casualty in the recent Condé Nast restructuring. Bob Sauerberg, president of Condé Nast, told the Wall Street Journal that “It’s been tough the last few months. Consumers love the magazine. It’s not fair or right.” He also noted that about 20 percent of the 60 Details staffers will be relocated to other Condé Nast publications, while Editor-in-Chief Dan Peres and Chief Revenue Officer Drew Schutte have been let go. Presumably the remaining staff will be laid off.

Details.com will remain operational until their content has been transferred to GQStyle.com, which will then be the publisher’s only go-to source for men’s fashions. Going forward, Condé Nast is expected to publish GQ Style quarterly instead of biannually, in an effort to retain their hold on the men’s fashion market.

The closure of Details follows GQ layoffs, the dismissal of the editor-in-chief at Allure and two senior staffers at Stylecaster, and the restructuring of Maxim and Nylon, earlier this month. The publisher also shuttered Cosmopolitan for Latinas earlier this year, closed Lucky magazine and restructured Style.com in 2014. It seems that no one, and no title, is safe from the chopping block.
