We knew it was only a matter of time before this happened. Model-of-the-moment Gigi Hadid has had a whirlwind year. She’s been named the face of Versace, Maybelline, Topshop, H&M x Balmain, and Guess, covered no less than five international magazines, walked her first Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show and was named reader’s choice winner for Model.com Model of the Year Awards. But she isn’t done yet. She’s just partnered with Tommy Hilfiger to design a capsule collection for the brand’s Fall 2016 lineup. Comprised of women’s apparel, accessories, footwear and even a new fragrance, the line, simply called Gigi by Tommy Hilfiger, will offer up a modern take on Hilfiger’s American heritage designs.
“I never thought I would be asked to design a capsule collection, so it still feels like a dream that Tommy approached me to collaborate,” Hadid said in a statement. “His company is one that I genuinely love and have been a fan of for my entire life, and Tommy is the easiest, most fun person to work with. I have always looked up to his brand, campaigns and design style. I think our collection celebrates the iconic Tommy lifestyle and mixes a bit of everything: there are styles that are really hippie-chic, styles that are sporty streetwear, and styles that are tomboy but girly; everyone’s is going to love a different part of it.”
The supermodel was also named the label’s new campaign star and global brand ambassador, a role that will no doubt take full advantage of her social media status. The move is part of the brand’s strategy to move further into global markets, and grow their revenues in all women’s categories.
