Hendrick's Gin: A Cucumber and a Rose Food & Spirits: William Grant & Sons is the Scotland-based distillers of this uniquely produced gin. This esteemed family-owned provider of premium alcohol beverages also produces, Glenfiddich Scotch Whisky, Grant's Scotch Whisky, The Balvenie, Reyka Vodka, Wood's Old Navy Rum, and Milagro Tequila and others at the Glenfiddich Distillery.
The flavor of Hendrick's Gin is so distinct because of the way it is distilled and two unique ingredients. Hendrick's, despite being made by a big manufacturer,is a small-batch-distilled gin. Without portending to possess the knowledge of master distillers, allowing gin to reach its boiling point slowly instead of rapidly results in a more tasteful finished product.
Additionally, Hendricks adds cucumber and Bulgarian roses to its mix, whereas many gin makers use juniper instead. The end result is a smoother and somewhat sweeter aftertaste to the palate. The cucumber infusion adds a delicate creaminess, making the gin less biting. Coriander and citrus peel are also added into the mix.
Hendrick's Gin was the Double Gold Winner 2004 at the San Francisco International Spirits Competition. Its website boasts of a dozen unusual mixed drinks that can be concocted its flavorful gin. Akin to George Washington Carver and the many uses he discovered for peanuts, Hendrick's Gin is one more reason to heap praise toward and to be thankful for cucumbers.
