Luxury Wine: In 1944, Zachy Zacharia operated a small, 150-square-foot corner store in Scarsdale, N.Y. Today Zachys Wine Auctions is a premier, full-service, fine-wine establishment. It all took a turn for the better during the early 1960s when Zachy's son, Don, transformed his father's liquor-and-wine store to an exclusive shop of fine wines. Don cultivated relationships with vineyard owners in France, specifically Bordeaux and Burgundy, that remain intact and continue to improve with age. Over the years similar developments occurred with vineyard owners of Napa Valley, Calif., Italy, Spain, Germany, and Holland. Zachys' exploration for untapped sources of fine wine is an ongoing process.
Today Zachys Wine Auctions sponsors prestigious auctions from New York to Los Angeles and participates in gala events involving fine wines year round. The 2007 Spring Auction in NYC places $6 to $9 million, which is more than 2,200 lots of the finest wines, on the auction block. Online bidding is welcomed on all auctions. A complete schedule of auctions is available at Zachys' Web site.
Zachys operates a store in White Plains, N.Y., and sells online too. The shop's professional services include wine storage and appraisals of wine cellars. Zachys has a 30,000-square-foot temperature-controlled facility. The firm's success is based upon providing superior customer service and fine wines. Sommeliers and aspiring wine connoisseurs alike receive equal attention and time. The various sampler and subscription packages make excellent gifts, as both options offer a very convenient way to become acquainted with an array of fine wines.
Zachys is participating in the 2007 Bon Appétit Culinary & Wine Focus in Las Vegas on May 27-30. Visit the JustLuxé Events Calendar for more info on these shows and other luxury lifestyle shows and events.
