Food & Spirits: Famed French champagne house Veuve Clicquot has released the latest example of their fortuitous partnership with iconic Italian boatmaker Riva in the form of a wooden boat-inspired gift box. The La Grande Dame by Riva Gift Box echoes the iconic Riva motoryachts of the 1960s, as owned by the likes of Brigitte Bardot, Richard Burton, Sophia Loren, Aristotle Onassis and Prince Ranier of Monaco. Made of mahogany, chrome and black lacquer, the elegant chest encases one bottle of Veuve Clicquot's La Grande Dame 1998 and sells for $140.
La Grande Dame is Veuve Clicquot's prestige cuvee, named after its legendary founder, Barbe-Nicole Clicquot Ponsardin. Riva, which dates from the 1800s, is an icon of the Italian Riviera's Dolce Vita style. They recently unveiled their newest model, the $940,000, 33-ft. Aquariva Super at the New York Boat Show. Previous pieces in the Grande Dame Cruise Collection from Veuve and Riva include an $80,000 made-to-order traveling trunk, a Cruiser Bag with two champagne flutes and a yacht-inspired wooden ice bucket.
