In Distill of the Night! Food & Spirits: When a company has been in existence since 1797, it is 100-percent proof this firm knows its business. That is the fact on the Glen Garioch Distillery (pronounced "Gerrie") located in Aberdeen, Scotland. The distillery was closed for a brief time, 1995 to 1997; but the arrival of Stanley P. Morrison Limited, subsequently known as the Morrison Bowmore Distillers Limited, put it back intact.
This single-malt, Scotch whisky is available in three ages. Aged for 10 years, the body is light to medium, with a flavor that is dry and "malty," with hints of violet. Its color, or colour, if you prefer, is golden syrup. And the finish is astonishingly smooth for this fermented wunderkind.
Glen Garioch's 15-year old, honey color Scotch whisky is of a medium body. Its flavorful taste provides hints of lavender and oak with a sweet-syrup taste as it glides across the palate, leaving you with a lingering mellow yet very sumptuous afterglow within.
The most mature member of this stalwart trio is aged 21 years and possesses a hearty copper color. Your taste buds are delighted by a light sherry and oak flavor with floral notes, which are highlighted by a "malty," sweet syrup swirl. Warming and mellow best summarizes the finish of the "old man" of Glen Garioch.
You will never feel a flip-flop but you may hear a few "du-whops" when Glen Garioch's Scotch whisky is in the house! It's a "verrie" good time!
