Mountain Gourmet found in Aspen Food & Spirits: When was the last time you snowshoed to dinner? Quite possibly, never, but that's about to change. The world of fine dining has become a quest for the most unique experience, from eating a fish with the potential to kill you with one fatal bite to cooking your own food over a communal grill but paying the same price as you would if the meal was prepared for you, to sharing a pot of cheesy fondue with friends to plucking pieces of sushi off a woman's naked body to dining in the Eiffel Tower overlooking Paris. Now you can add to the list snowshoeing-or cross country skiing, or arriving by horse-drawn sleigh-to your dining destination. The Pinecreek Cookhouse is located just 11 miles outside Aspen at the base of the Elk Mountain range, where guests employ a number of methods of trekking from the Ashcroft Ghost Town to the wonderfully re-created authentic log cabin made of native Colorado logs.
Once inside your the novelty continues with the eclectic menu orchestrated by Executive Chef, Kurt Boucher, including such mountain gourmet as Jack Daniels Marinated Caribou, Cinnamon Scented Elk Tenderloin, as well as Alaskan Salmon, Rainbow Trout, and vegetarian options for those lacking an affinity for wild game.
Open summer months too.
