Luxury Accessories: You'll always have a place in your heart for the scarves Grams knitted for you. And there is something forever endearing about those imperfect multi-colored scarves with the tassels on the end. But today you want to send a more mature message. Scarves keep your neck warm, sure, but they also enhance an outfit and add a hint of sophistication to a sweater or coat. Scarves are versatile too, so you get more mileage out of your wardrobe.
There are many different ways to wear a scarf, depending on the weight of the scarf and the occasion, says Jan Mehalick, a representative for Begg Scotland Cashmere.
Wrap a lightweight scarf around your shoulders as a stole for an evening out, or wrap twice around your neck and tie as a scarf, or double it over and loop it through for a more casual look worn over a sweater or with a fitted jacket. For a heavier weight (thicker ply) cashmere scarf, wrap it once around your neck and loop through, tied at the neck leaving a longer end, or double over before wrapping around the neck and loop through or tie around your neck (starting from the front and criss-crossing back, bringing back to front) and tied in front.
A long narrow scarf is great for guys- simply loop the scarf around the neck for a sophisticated look for day or evening.
As far as the hottest colors this season: rouge and shades of orange in solids and prints were a huge hit this season (basically anything in orange hues). Classic black, vanilla and navy are always popular, but orange really adds a surprising and pleasant burst of color to neutrals. At Begg Scotland Cashmere, they start with the whitest cashmere possible, and then soak it in rich colors. All of their cashmere is dyed before the weaving process so that each fiber has the richest, most vibrant color.
Depending on what you're wearing, you may need a lightweight scarf or if the forecast calls for parkas and shovels, you may want something thicker. Begg offers several different types of scarves in various "weights," including the "whispy" cashmere scarf, which is so light the entire scarf, can fit through a ladies' ring. If you're heading out for a snowball fight, Grandma's scarf may come in handy, but when you want something more elegant, nothing beats a cashmere scarf.
