Desconstructivism as Wearable Art: Thea Grant Collection Luxury Jewelry: Most women can only hope to get their husbands to go shopping with them, let alone design jewelry. Thea Grant has the best of both worlds. The current Thea Grant collection
www.theagrant.com is a collaboration in design and exploration between Thea Grant and her husband Nicolás Bazzani. A Brooklyn local, Grant founded the company in 2003 after experiencing repeated success with her designs on the runway. Inspired by the art of dance, photography, haute couture, costume design, sculpture, and millinery, Grant's vision combined with her husband's industrial design background and talent in three-dimensional forms to produce truly inspired works of art.
The couple's approach their creations like constructivist sculptures. Draped on a mannequin and then built with attention to theme and form, each piece is designed as a stand-alone, one-of-a-kind masterpiece adorned with found objects, vintage pieces and charms the Grant and Bazzani find on excursions in New York City and in their travels. The types of materials they use range from vintage brass and sterling to gold, with themes ranging from rock 'n roll to subtle gothic.
