Louis Vuitton Takes Fashion to the High-Seas Luxury Yachting Competition: Though the sport of yachting has long been considered "trendy" among socialites, it has been making headway among the fashion world, too. As a frontrunner in today's world of fashion, it seems appropriate that Louis Vuitton sponsors one of the most popular and prestigious yachting competitions to date. The Louis Vuitton Cup is a pre-qualifying yacht race for the esteemed America's Cup. Since 1983, Louis Vuitton has played a major role in this competition, scheduled from April 18 to June 12, 2007.
It is Act 13 of the Louis Vuitton Cup that decides the challenger for the 32nd annual America's Cup. The Valencia Louis Vuitton Act 13 is a fleet racing regatta and is a crucial time for challengers to earn bonus points. The winner of these so-called "playoffs" will advance to the America's Cup, where they will go on to challenge the winners of last year's race, Alinghi.
This year, the Challenger Selection Series will be comprised of 11 teams, who will face off in a pair of Round Robin meets. The four teams with the highest cumulative point standings will move into the Louis Vuitton Cup Semi Finals, which take anywhere from five to nine days to complete. The two winners will advance to the Louis Vuitton Cup Final, and after nine series, the winning team will take home the Louis Vuitton Cup and have a chance to win the coveted America's Cup.
To commemorate the event, Louis Vuitton has created a line of limited-edition products including leather goods, shoes, watches, sunglasses, and even ready-to-wear items. This year's collection features a complete line of bags- made from all-purpose materials- for sports, city and travel.
