Fashion Bios: Francisco Costa - named Womenswear Designer of the Year (2006) by the Council of Fashion Designers of America - assumed the role of creative director of the Calvin Klein Collection for women after working directly with Calvin Klein and other top design houses of Gucci, Balmain Couture, and Oscar de la Renta.
Growing up in the small Brazilian town of Guarani near Rio, Mr. Costa was born into a family with deep roots in fashion. His mother and father were developers and owners of a successful apparel business and his sister also pursued fashion design.
He arrived in New York City in the early 1990s with aspirations of designing for a large house. While studying English, he enrolled at the Fashion Institute of Technology where his talent quickly earned him an Idea Como/Young Designers of America award, which led to further study both at F.I.T. and abroad in Italy.
Once graduated and having mastered English, Mr. Costa worked briefly at Susan Bennett Studio before being recruited by the HE-RO Group as designer of Bill Blass dresses and knits.
In 1993, Mr. Costa began a five-year collaboration with Oscar de la Renta that included the designer's signature collection as well as Pierre Balmain haute couture, pret-a-porter luxe, and the launch of Oscar de la Renta Pink Label. Tom Ford recruited Mr. Costa in 1998 to join his Gucci design studio, where he was senior designer concentrating on eveningwear, including custom designs for select clients and celebrities.
Mr. Costa has been living in New York City and working in Calvin Klein's studio since early 2002.

Italo Zucchelli - nominated by the Council of Fashion Designers of America for the Menswear Designer of the Year (2007) - serves as the Creative Director of the Calvin Klein Collection for men.
After collaborating day-to-day with Calvin Klein on the design of four men's collections and two women's collections, he was selected to take over the creative direction of the menswear Collection beginning with the Spring 2004 season. Prior to joining Calvin Klein, Mr. Zucchelli held design positions at both Jil Sander and Romeo Gigli in Milan.
Growing up near the Italian coastal town of La Spezia, Mr. Zucchelli's first glimpse of Calvin Klein came through a men's underwear advertisement with Olympic pole vaulter Tom Hintanhaus that appeared in L'Uomo Vogue. He continues to be inspired by that iconic image, which to him represents many of Calvin Klein's design ideals for men.
From his start at Calvin Klein in 2000, Mr. Zucchelli got the idea of Calvin Klein's sexy, American philosophy; an aesthetic inspired by the human form and the modern idea of designing clothes that relate to the body in a sophisticated and effortless manner.
Mr. Zucchelli loves to distinguish each season by adding an edge to the clothes - creating new fits and looks that men want to wear - but with a respect for Calvin Klein's menswear vocabulary and the simplicity and purity of the brand's design roots.
He is a 1988 graduate of the Polimoda International Institute of Design and Marketing in Florence and attended courses for two years at the Architecture University, also in Florence. Before being recruited by Calvin Klein, he was menswear designer for two years at Jil Sander; and, a designer at Romeo Gigli.
Mr. Zucchelli lives and works in New York City.
