Sunglasses: Of course, when you pay a premium price for luxury products, you expect excellence in return. That is the deal. It doesn't happen often, but there are times when something bad happens to well-made product sold by a solid company.
It's these moments where a company claiming to make quality goods either shines or fades on the spot. Recently, I had such an experience, which reinforced for me, why it always pays to be "luxe-minded" and buy quality products.
My pair of Oakley Half Jackets sunglasses and I experienced an unexpected break up while out shopping at the mall. While seated in a sports-apparel store trying on a pair of running shoes, I leaned forward and heard something snap from inside my pocket. My shock must have been apparent, as the sales clerk assisting me asked if I were okay. Apparently, he assumed that distinctive sound came from my body; it must have been loud.
I was fine but thought my sunglasses were goners. As I slowly removed the glasses in my pocket, the sales clerk asked incredulously, "That's what made that noise?" As the stem of the left ear of the glasses fell out of the soft-pouch and hit the floor, the clerk said, "That's a real shame," as he picked it up and handed it to me.
Since I was in a shopping mall anyway, I decided to go to a sunglasses store to see if a repair could be made or to buy a new pair of sunglasses, with expectations decidedly leaning more toward the latter about to happen.
Upon entering the store, a very friendly store clerk greeted me. I handed over my broken spectacles. He briefly inspected the damage, smiled, and said, "No problem at all." The benevolent man deftly re-attached the separated stem to the frames in about 20 seconds or less. The sales clerk, who turned out to be the store's manager, and an ambassador of exemplary service, even showed me how to do the repair. It was easy.
So, what had started out so badly turned out to be a story with a happy ending and moral to it too. Buying quality merchandise is an investment that can pay off when you least expect it. I was so happy I bought a soft cleaning cloth just to show my gratitude. And that's the truth.
