Resort Wear Line Zebra Collection Launches

January 26, 2010   |   Contributor: Carly Zinderman

Fashion & Style: Designers are constantly drawing inspiration from the animal kingdom, with animal prints coming down the runway season after season. The newly launched Zebra Collection is the epitome of the trend, building an entire fashion line around the black and white beast from which it draws it name.

The Zebra Collection lifestyle resort collection includes active wear, shoes, handbags, eyewear and accessories. Fitted dresses or skirts are great pieces to pack for your midwinter getaway, as they are tiny enough to pack in a carry-on bag and can take you from a walk on the beach into the club.

The Barcelona shoes are a personal favorite and a great way to tie together a classic black and white ensemble with just a touch of fun and more than a hint of sex appeal. The strappy sandals offer the comfort of a platform with the height of some of the most stunning shoes on the market.

Gucci Men's Fall Winter 2010 Fashion Show

January 25, 2010   |   Contributor: Carly Zinderman

Fashion & Style:The brand begun by Guccio Gucci has expanded into a fashionable luxury empire and the latest looks coming down the runway at the Men's Fall Winter 2010 Fashion Show merge style with function, with more than a touch of Gucci’s leather heritage.

Like last year, the men’s suits coming down the Gucci catwalk are still slim fitting, but not the same super skinny of last year. The suits have returned to a more classic fit with longer jackets, but are still slim with broad shoulders, a slim waist and slim-fitting, short-legged trousers. Jackets feature a mere two buttons, with the bottom button left unfastened, while pants are universally cuffed and ties stop above the low-rise waist.

In the way of color, rich neutrals ruled, accented by traditional fall hues like rust and goldenrod. 2010’s shades of blue also made an appearance in several navy pieces. Warm leather jackets, overnight bags and well-made shoes accessorized both formal and informal wear.

For the weekend, Gucci offered skinny corduroy pants with color-coordinating sweaters and scarves. Cardigans and pullovers reminiscent of the 70's featured shades of brown-patterned shawl necklines. Bolder looks uses satins, as in a coordinating eggplant outfit showcasing a satin blazer and sheened pants ensemble worn over a cotton T-shirt in the same hue.

While subdued compared to some Gucci offerings, overall the show showcased what Gucci does best: fashion forward luxury wear.

Ahilya Scarves Merge Old World with New World for the Ultimate in Luxury Comfort

January 22, 2010   |   Contributor: Carly Zinderman

Fashion & Style: Nothing feels more sublimely luxe than cozying up with cashmere. Ahilya takes cashmere to a whole level of luxurious comfort by blending ancient Kashmiri methods with cutting edge British design.

Using the world’s finest resources for each scarf--fibers are from Ladakh, lace from France and metallic fibers from Japan—each scarf is hand spun, hand woven and hand dyed.

The result is Manuela Moollan's ahilya scarves, a reflection of Europe’s history with Kashmir. Made with ancient traditions, the scarves are genuine cashmere, straight from the legendary goats, but are so inspired by the city of London. Each collection reflects a merging of cultures and the brand new range of 2010 are no exception.

Inspired by Surrealism, ahilya’s 2010 collection is at once a juxtaposition and a merging of old and new, time and space, ancient and modern. The collection features the collaboration of up and coming design talent Jane Rutter and artist Lela Shield, who helped to move the scarf from accessory to statement.

Whether a city fairy floating in lace, or a tough as nails type, the new collection, which incorporates exquisite chains and laces, has a place in every wardrobe.
