New York, Paris, Milan and London are the fashion capitals of the world, the upper echelon on which some of the biggest names in fashion walk. While we all love a Proenza Schouler runway show like nobody’s business, there are up and coming designers all over the globe that deserve a little of our attention. Showcasing emerging talent from all over the world, smaller and independent fashion weeks house some of the most forward, innovative designs in the business. From eastern Asia to the land down under, there’s an event to watch to get your spring fashion fix.

China Fashion Week October 25-31

With China producing hot designers by the dozens, taking a peek at what their fashion week has to offer might not be a bad idea. Being one of the biggest events on the Asian mainland, China Fashion Week draws in designers from all over the continent to show their pieces in Beijing. Recently partnering with Mercedes-Benz in 2011, it now joins with cities like Miami, New York, Russia and Tokyo in the MBFW family. Since its beginning in 2007 China Fashion Week has shown over 330 designers from over 10 countries and more than 360 brands have held 791 shows.

Beirut Fashion Week Dates TBA

One of the biggest fashion events in the Middle East is held for five days yearly in Lebanon with thousands of attendees and international press including CNN, Fashion TV and Vogue. As it gains worldwide attention, designers from all over are are bringing their collections to feature on the Beirut runways. Some of our favorite designers are from Lebanon, so there could always be a new Elie Saab or Basil Soda showing his collection to the crowd. Beirut Fashion Week also makes a point of giving back, holding shows specifically to raise money for children's charities.

Fashion Festival Sydney September 24-27

Creating its own buzz in the southern hemisphere, Australia Fashion Week is doing its best to grab people’s attention. Featuring designers like Phoenix Keating and introducing the Kardashian Kollection to Australia, the fashion festival is an amazing place to spot young emerging talent. Not to mention if you’re looking for light, colorful, youthful looks there’s no place better than the island continent known for its surf and laid back beach lifestyle.

Fashion Week Russia October 22-26

The largest fashion week in Eastern Europe has been going on for over a decade and only in recent years was big enough to be sponsored by Mercedes-Benz. Over that time it’s brought over 60 international designers to the attention of Russia and has allowed Russian, as well as former soviet republic designers, a platform to introduce their art to the world. One of the bigger fashion weeks, it’s vying for a spot amongst the elite to be counted as the fifth fashion week capital of the world.

Toronto Fashion Week October 20-25

Sponsered by MasterCard, this fashion week is also known as World MasterCard Fashion Week. With designers from all over the world, Toronto is gearing up to be a heavy hitting show. Most designers here have already made a bit of a namesake for themselves and are looking to launch their brand into superstardom along with some of the biggest houses in fashion. Watch the Toronto show for brands with a more seasoned look whose designs can rival the runways of Milan and New York.

Fashion Week Tokyo October 13-19

Arguably the greatest contender for the fifth greatest fashion week, Fashion Week Tokyo has style like no other from one of the most eclectic cities in the world. Held at Shibuya Hikarie in the heart of the fashion district, Tokyo designers create some of the most avant garde and fun collections in the industry. To see some of the most artistic and diversified pieces from designers that you won’t find anywhere else, this show is one of the best.
