Cushnie Et Ochs RTW Spring 2014: Baring Skin in Dark Colors, Cutouts and Collars

"In spring, we explore the conflict between hard and soft and the physical restraint binding them together," Carly Cushnie and Michelle Ochs told WWD, but who knew they would take it so literally. In true Cushnie et Ochs form, their runway show left little to the imagination, referencing the look of cutouts from their Fall/Winter 2013 collection. Black, white, grey and deep purple dresses came down the runway with straps, buckles and collars, all with a very distinct bondage vibe. While the look wasn’t new for the label, the young designers behind the line definitely gave spring a twist that we haven’t seen before. Cushnie et Ochs, RUNWAY SHOW, NYFW
Some of the cutouts were done well with tiny glimmers of skin, giving a sensual peak at what lies underneath. The simplicity of a few dresses made their form fitting silhouette perfect for a night out, while others were stacked with straps, buckles and heavy metal collars—you draw your own conclusions. The addition of bathing suits was fun and summery in an all-white scope with buckles and cutouts that are welcome accents in swimwear. A mix of short skimpy frocks and long weighty dresses made the collection as a whole seem more seasonally transitional than a pure dedication to spring. Cushnie et Ochs, RUNWAY SHOW, NYFW
