Tommy Hilfiger Celebrates 30th Anniversary with Fashionable Football Collection

As always, Tommy Hilfiger presented an on-point collection filled with collegiate style and Americana inspiration. It’s sort of his thing. And he’s been doing nothing but for the last 30 years. So to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the brand, Hilfiger pulled out all the stops for his Fall 2015 runway show, transforming the Park Avenue Armory into a football stadium, complete with a 50-yard line, end zone and Jumbotron. And that was all anyone talked about. There were great athletic skirts, varsity jackets and some seriously it-worthy lace up boots, but they almost took a backseat to the kitschy wonderland of Tommy Hilfiger football.

This show was not directly intended for sports fans—although it was clearly geared in that direction with cheerleader-inspired skirts, band coats and letterman jackets that looked like they had been swiped from the shoulders of quarterback boyfriends. Models walked the Astroturf in ‘50s college sweaters, preppy plaid and ‘70s silhouettes. But some of the jersey looks went too far, looking less like a fashionable take on athletic style and more like the models had raided a nearby locker room.

And as tribute to his 30 years in fashion, a curated selection of runway styles are currently available to purchase online. So if you were paying attention to the looks (rather than the Jumbotron) and are shopping for a way to sartorially relive your college years, you might want to go grab a sweater or two as they are quickly selling out. Available styles include a silk, star tattoo dress, a metallic blazer and a 30th anniversary-edition clutch.
