Lie Sangbong has just released their debut Resort Collection—a minimalist dream amid the loud and colorful lines we’ve been seeing this season. The collection offers, on the surface, a degree of simplicity in its designs, but the brand’s designer, Mr. Lie, has a few little surprises up his well-structured sleeves. Pops of bright turquoise and canary yellow appear throughout the mostly neutral palette, pieces come with removable accoutrements that can be worn as jewelry and several items can transition into other designs.
Aside from wearability, what we crave the most from Resort collections are lightweight materials (it is a resort line after all), and Lie Sangbong delivers with pieces made from luxurious silk and chiffon. The staple trench coat is given a warm-weather makeover and designed with an ultra-lightweight nylon, so there is no excuse to go without your favorite wardrobe statement piece this season. A loosely-fitted, ocean blue trouser jumpsuit conjures images of dreamy, faraway tropical escapes and cotton t-shirt dresses in subtle prints are made for everyday dressing.
But what we love most about the collection are the little secrets hidden in some of the pieces. A great little touch, several of Lie Sangbong’s Resort pieces come with metal detailing that is removable and can be worn separately as jewelery. Jackets come with chains that can be turned into bracelets and a silky dress has a gold detail that can be turned into a necklace in a flash, enabling you to change outfits depending on your mood. There are also pieces that transition into others: turn a skirt into a strapless dress and reveal layers of gorgeous fabric.
In this collection, Mr. Lie really shows off that he has a flair for versatility. Although constructed for the minimalist fan, the collection stays fresh due to unexpected details and additions. Lie Sangbong has made a triumphant Resort debut and we cannot wait to see more from the New York-based brand.
