Yesterday, Peter Copping presented a beautiful, easy-to-wear collection of wedding gowns for Oscar de la Renta’s Fall 2016 Bridal line. Combining the best of Copping’s ready-to-wear with the romance and playfulness of formalwear gave him a beautiful platform on which to display the craftsmanship and tailoring of the house. Delicate fabrics and soft silhouettes were brought together for a sweet and feminine collection.
Much of the collection’s silhouettes were pulled directly from his Spring 2016 runway, but they were elevated for a once-in-a-lifetime occasion. Hemlines were given trains and lace edging, skirting was redone in a trumpet shape and A-line floor-length dresses were turned into princess-worthy ball gowns. Bodices were decorated with floral embroidery and organza petal appliqués. Pearls, beads, sequins and baubles adorned necklines and trim to create abstract flowers and petals.
Pieces were light and ethereal—Chantilly lace, organza, tulle and silk faille gave otherwise heavily layered dresses a soft innocence to it. Ribbons and bows were used modestly, giving the collection a feminine feel without being too youthful or sweet. One particularly beautiful gown had a simple bodice with a puffy tulle skirt that was covered in subtle tulle rosettes. It was definitely one of the more stunning pieces in the collection.
