An icy evening in the middle of February might seem like the perfect place to showcase a collection of high-performance winter active wear, but for the guests that had to suffer through the freezing outdoor display at Moncler Grenoble’s Fall 2016 show, it was anything but. As industry insiders huddled together for warmth, the models walked the terraces at Lincoln Center, looking cozy and content in layers of fur and down outerwear.

The show included a small performance inspired by dance troops and marching bands (not that anyone could focus on anything but the cold), with a line that was heavily influenced by school sporting events and professional athletes. Combining both men’s and women’s performance wear, the collection focused specifically on ski and snowboarding gear that was designed to be light and streamlined without forgoing the same level of insulation.

Men’s designs were clean and simple, inspired by the Bond films of the ‘60s, while womenswear was given extra flourish through unexpected textures like embroidered and waxed jackets. The entire collection was modern and fun, with unexpected pops of color, pattern or texture without adding bulk. But even with the additional glamour and flair, the brand didn’t sacrifice practicality; they used cutting-edge tech like heat-sealing fabrics to make them completely waterproof.
