Starlets Ditch the Heels for the Second Night of Cannes

Cannes Red Carpet Day 2

The stars were dressed to the nines at the Cannes Film Festival last night, making the first evening look like nothing more than a casual rehearsal dinner. Walking in arm in arm with her husband George Clooney, Amal made her debut on the Cannes red carpet in a radiant yellow Versace gown. Unfortunately for her, the multi layered dress and Rivera winds didn’t not agree, and the star ended up tangled in fabric, leaving her tripping over her heels. Julia Roberts ditched the heels entirely, and opted to walk the red carpet barefoot in an effort to protest the festival’s unrealistic dress codes for women. This comes after last year’s rumors that a group of elderly women were barred entrance to a screening for wearing rhinestone flats rather than the required heels.

Other stars took a less demonstrative approach to dressing for the evening. Araya Hargate wore a skin-baring Atelier Versace gown, Naomi Watts sparkled in a Michael Kors slip dress and Julianna Moore opted for something a little edgier with a shredded Louis Vuitton frock. Our favorite look of the evening had to be Jessica Chastain’s vintage-inspired, Alexander McQueen gown that was made out of a bejeweled bodice and studded tulle. She added even more glitter with a Piaget sautoir and diamond rings. With all of that sparkle it was almost impossible not to immediately name the starlet the best dressed of the evening.
