Chanel already has a line of makeup, but that hasn't stopped the Kaiser of creativity, Karl Lagerfeld from teaming up with cosmetics brand Shu Uemura for a new line set to be released as a special holiday collection, WWD reports. Karl Lagerfeld has a long-standing relationship with Shu Uemura makeup, but not in the traditional facial application sense.

Apparently Lagerfeld has long been using shades of Shu Uemura to color in the sketches and illustrations that so delight fashion lovers and editors. So why did Lagerfeld lean toward Shu Uemura rather than something like colored pencils for his illustrations? According to one of the top fashion designers, it's “because other manufacturers do not offer such beautiful colors.”

Lagerfeld will have lots of creative input with the line, including choosing colors and packaging as well as photographing the campaign. Pier Paolo Righi, president of Karl Lagerfeld, says that the products will reflect the designer’s “iconic, ironic style.”

Shu Uemura's namesake is a Tokyo-born Hollywood makeup artist, who began mixing and selling his signature Cleansing Oil in 1960. He died in Tokyo on December 29, 2007, at the age of 79. The brand continues to be amongst the most popular beauty sellers in Asia and has become a celebrity favorite as well. These days it is owned by L’Oréal.

Karl Lagerfeld for Shu Uemura will be unveiled in September, but don't expect to get your hands on it until November, when it will be available at 400 Shu Uemura stores worldwide. Visit ShuUemura-usa.com to learn more about the brand.
