Chip off the old block Luxury Decor: As things get more and more homogenous, you find yourself struggling for originality. You scour antique and thrift stores in hopes of finding one-of-a-kind housewares and vintage clothing-all in an attempt to avoid succumbing to the pesky IKEA and GAP syndromes that plague your colleagues, friends and neighbors. You've successfully managed to decorate your home with various second-hand odds and ends and now all you really need are a few more pieces to bring it all together but you don't know where to look.
Fortunately there's West Elm. While classic, their pieces are distinctly heterogeneous. In fact, they've cleverly described the ultra-cool block table lamp as "variegated." Say what? That's var-i-e-gat-ed ... meaning "distinguished or characterized by variety" (don't feel bad, I had to look it up too). This must-have lamp ($99) features a Zebrawood-veneer base aligned with a luminous white fabric shade. And what's one without the other? Get the block floor lamp ($179) to complete your non-conformist decor.
